September 2016 Newsletter

Summer is officially at an end! Scroll below to see what we have in store for you this fall in our September newsletter:

  1. Many unexpected upsets for this year's US Open! But wow those overhead serves are killer. In order to generate that kind of power, one needs adequate upper body rotation, single leg stability, and arm strength (not to mention, coordination). For those looking to amp up their tennis serve this season, a few key exercises to integrate into your training.
  2. According to USA Olympic Triathlete gold medalist, Gwen Joegensen, "quality, not quantity, of rest and recovery is an athlete's real winning secret." Consider this sweet home-made post recovery treat of Chocolate Avocado Mousse: gluten-free, high in fiber, packed with healthy fats and rich in magnesium as well as potassium.
  3. Last but certainly not least, the NY Marathon season approaches! Runners: be mindful of your stride length and cadence. Researchers have been finding that fewer real-world injuries occur in runners who have less vertical impact in each stride. A more recent study suggests that one way this can be achieved is by reducing stride length while maintaining the same speed.

We at DSPT are here to help you effectively and safely train as well as recover from your fall sport of choice. Give us a call to get on the right track!

Also, starting this month, we will feature copies of articles featured our newsletter in clinic for you to peruse at your leisure. Happy fall!
